This year, I have been working with the theme “metamorphosis”, mainly with self portraits. This idea came from my own experiences with change in values and beliefs, and how it has affected me. I started the year focussing on the theme of childhood memories, but after exploring this for a while, I found that metamorphosis suited me better.

I mostly like to work with slightly abstract photographs with a painted/etched effect. In the first semester, I felt that the painting with light technique helped convey my theme through my photographs, and experimented a lot with that. I think the soft light and the way the image could change so much in the one photograph. When I moved on from this, I found that photographing smoke also gave this effect, and began to experiment with different light and smoke sources. I also use my photos as references for my drawings and prints.
