My artwork is an extension of myself and aims to reflect my personal memories, thoughts and emotions. My work has elements that are figurative and at times incorporates symbolic references to translate my visual message.

The purpose for my work is to restore balance, growth and acceptance within myself. To challenge who I am as an individual and finally create artworks that can somehow relate and communicate visually to others.

Presently I am working on a body or artworks that relate to family. My first works are of my daughter. They are large scale acrylic paintings in which I experimented with new techniques, scale and expressiveness hoping to capture her energy. My theme continues onto my husband. My intentions for this work are to depict his ability to show strength and courage through trying times. My final works is a series of self portraits that I am working on. I am experimenting with distortion to capture emotion and identity.

I tend to work best when I create the background first. Mediums of choice would have to be anything that I can use my hands or fingers with. Charcoals and pastels are great, but my favourite would have to be clay. If I could select a tool of choice my hands would win face down.  Each work I create often feels like I am walking through a new corridor, a journey, a build up for something unexpected. The process is more important to me than the final result because I learn something about myself each time.

This vision I have recently adopted, it encourages growth and character. Be kind to yourself, because “art is like a mirror, the reflection is somehow different every day”.
